Juntos Podemos by Tony Aarons

During the Haringey Citizens UK meeting last month, we were all asked to put a few words into the chat room that expressed our feelings. Amid the dozens of phrases that scrolled by was 'Juntos Podemos', 'together we can' in Spanish.
The manifesto of Citizens UK revolves around five issues including climate change, the living wage, youth safety, welcoming and sanctuary for immigrants and housing.
An immigrant to these shores myself (and coming from a country that isn’t always that welcoming), for the past year I have pushed to move this issue to the top of the Citizens UK list at a handful of meetings (I really should do more). Being a stranger anywhere is difficult. These problems only become worse during a pandemic when jobs are scarce and we are all much more reclusive than usual.
While my personal favorite wasn’t as high on other members of Citizens UK list, all of the issues are important.
The housing situation in London is daunting. Finding decent, let alone an affordable place to live is a challenge to most anyone starting out in the capital.
MP David Lammy spoke movingly about the issue of school safety, telling the Haringey branch of Citizens UK how he worries about his own son.
And no more needs to be said about climate change.
But that’s really the point. All of the issues are important and if we can act as a group to get the attention of the London mayoral candidates, we have accomplished something.
Together, we can. Or in Hebrew (at least according to Google):
ביחד אנחנו יכולים
