What we do

As well as services and activities, we place strong emphasis on education, culture, wellbeing and social action. There is something for everyone, with participation actively encouraged - whether you want to attend services, learn, or just enjoy the company and food.

Education and learning

You used to call it cheder. We call it Chaverim. We run children’s classes, ranging from Year One to a pre bar and bat mitzvah programme. Classes are held in members' homes after school during the week. The focus is on understanding of our heritage and culture, forming friendships and having fun.

Learning isn’t just for kids - we hold stimulating and inspiring sessions for adults too on issues we know are important to our community.

Shabbat services and festivals

We hold a wide range of services and events throughout the year in people’s homes and school halls. There are Friday nights at home, High Holy Day services, a communal Seder, as well as family-friendly Chanukah and Purim parties.

Bar and bat mitzvahs

One of the most important moments on our journey through life as Jews - nothing gives us greater pride than helping families prepare for and go through their children’s bar or bat mitzvah. It’s one of the things we do best, making sure the whole family has a fulfilling, meaningful and joyful Jewish experience, in the way they want. All our bar and bat mitzvahs engage in a social action project as part of their experience and many remain involved, helping with children’s services, events and our social action programme.

Social

action

We are strongly committed to helping our local community and those around us who need support. We believe that Tikkun Olam (repairing the world) is not only about donating money, it’s also about action. From supporting refugees to donating food to those in need, we participate in social action projects as a community.

Coming together with music

This is Crouch End, after all. Our music group brings magical and haunting melodies to our services (and is also a great way to socialise and get involved). Anyone that sings or plays an instrument is warmly welcomed to sessions, led by our wonderful conductor, singer and teacher.
